Just Don't Let Me Fall

I met them as I was walking down a wide street in the city center, with some iron tables and chairs in its middle, and many store windows. If it were not for Friday evening, the street would have been filled with life. Yet now, all the stores were closed, and we were nearly the only ones there.
One of them was slender, of average height for a girl, quite shorter than me. Her blue dress exposed her shoulders. She had a relatively short hair cut. Her black smooth hair curled a bit as it came down slightly beneath her neck.

The other one, walking beside her, was rather on the full side.

I was wearing hiking sandals, white cotton pants and a brown sleeveless shirt.
It was the aftermath of a hot day, earlier the skies were grey, everything was surrounded by itchy fog.
Yet now it was warm and cozy, it was very comfortable for me to be walking like that.

As I went down the street I saw them walking up in my direction. The slender one turned to me with a slight smile and asked in English, "Where is the street with all the bars?"

"I Believe it's that way," I said, pointing down the street.

"Oh, we thought so," she said, slightly blushing and looking down at her feet.

"I'm walking down the street myself, so you can come with me," I said, and we started descending the street together. The girl's friend asked where I was from, and I told them that I was from Tel Aviv, the main coastline city, about an hours ride away.

It turned out that the girls were also living in Tel Aviv. They have come with a group of volunteers to the country for six month to work with the community.

The girl asked me what I was doing here in the Capital. I explained that my family lived here and that I have come to visit. We exchanged names, and I asked the girl where they were from. She said they were from Finland.

"But you look so American," I said to her. Her cheeks reddened and she couldn't suppress a broad smile. "No…" She began saying and stopped.

There was a sparkle in her eyes as she looked into mine. And that was all I needed to have confidence. As we finished descending the street and came into a broad square, I said to them, "Well, I am not in a hurry to go home yet, so maybe I should join you, and later we will go to Tel Aviv together?"

There was a moment of silence. I could hear in the background a car passing by.

"Sure," The girl said as that moment passed, looking briefly at her friend, who did not seem to object. I lead them to a narrow street with many bars. I stopped at a bar with decent rock music, which had round tables outside. Most of the tables were empty, and I allowed the girl and her friend to get seated, while I went into the bar to call the waiter. They were seated across from each other, and I grabbed a chair and sat next to the girl. The waiter came with the menus, and I quickly chose a strong drink for myself. They didn't hesitate for long either. While the waiter was away, the girl asked me what I was doing for a living. I said that I was a computer programmer, and explained both of them briefly about my work.

The waiter came with the drinks, and we sat in cozy silence and sipped them to the bottom.

I looked into the girls eyes, and she looked straight back at mine. Her eyes were slightly dark green, almost turquoise, a clear vision of a long forest, the leaves of each tree bathing in the sunlight. I started talking about traveling. As I told her about a journey, the first night came clearly to my mind. I was sitting with a group of friends around the fire near our tent, by the sea.

Her hand rested on the table, and for a long moment I held it in mine, gently pressing her fingers, as if leading her through a thick wooden door, opening it, and taking her to a distant place and time. I could feel her fingers pressing warmly back against mine, and I went on. We traveled towards another, distant sea in the midst of the country, through a valley where a river flowed. We walked between two hills, covered in every possible location with short trees with countless leaves. It started to rain and we were running, ascending an asphalt road, and finding shelter in a lonely restaurant near the intersection of two roads. we spent an evening in a country boarding house. We traveled around it in the morning with a great white dog, finding a hidden and beautiful memoir that was enveloped by fog. We stood by a road with the dog, waiting for a car going by to stop for us. We were on the train home, and I looked outside into the wilderness and the cities passing by, feeling that all the particles in the world are connected to each other.

As I was finishing my story, I began stroking her hair. "Your hair is so smooth," I said to her with a smile. I leaned towards her and inhaled its scent. It was like the fresh air of a morning in the woods. "And it smells so great," I said, stressing every word.

Small tears of excitement were shining in here eyes. She looked to my eyes, lips, and eyes again. I leaned towards her and felt her lips against mine. They were amazingly soft. It was a gentle kiss, our lips moving slowly together, feeling for the first time the presence of the others. As we parted, I looked around us. Her friend gave me a smile, but she seemed to me somewhat uneasy. I smiled at my girl and asked their pardon for a moment. I went inside the bar, approached a guy sitting by himself, who seemed decent looking yet a bit shy. I put a hand on his shoulder, and when he turned around I introduced myself. I told him that a friend sitting with me and my girl was bored to tears. "Please," I said to him, “come and talk to her. Even if you don't like her you can still have a nice night for yourself and for her".

We went back to the table and I introduced him as a friend of mine I have just spotted. He introduced himself and sat by her friend. I sat back at my place, and saw them talking at the other side of the table, yet their voices seemed blurred to me and I could only somehow make out their movements.

I kissed my girl again, our eyes closed, our lips passionately caressing each other. As we parted I held her hand beneath the table. This time I did not let go, and she held on to me. Feeling the warm skin of her hand, I said to her, "Now tell me about the place where you grew up."

And she began. I could see her going through a straight wide path surrounded by long fields of grass, small trees planted in rows from each side. Grey skies above; her playing with other girls in the midst of a gigantic ship that stood in the middle of a large playing park; her running through the forest ahead of her parents, rays of the sun coming in patches, where they infiltrated through the high tress. She laughed each time she reached upon a patch of light, feeling the sun's rays gently tickling her body; her rowing a wooden boat through a small pond, surrounded by trees. Her father was sitting opposite her, and she, a small girl, had convinced her father to row the boat herself. He was sitting with his hand on his knee, supporting his chin. He looked deeply into her eyes, and she smiled broadly and could hardly suppress her laughter at the situation; her warming up inside her room, when she could see through the glass window the snow piling up outside, layer by layer. More and more snowflakes were falling down from the sky, filling the entire world.

It was time for us to go back to our city. Her friend and the guy said their goodbyes and exchanged phone numbers. We took the last row of seats on the mini bus to Tel Aviv. I sat next to the window, my girl by my side, and her friend next to her. As we were driving, she laid her head on my shoulder, and I held her hand in mine, our fingers gently rubbing each other.

We hardly spoke throughout the ride. Only at times she would ask or I would tell about something we were passing by in the darkness. A village, old car wrecks, mountains, an airport, wide fields.

At last we arrived at our city. When we got out of the mini bus, I stood facing her and looked into her eyes. “Would you like me to...” I began.

"Of course, she said at once, and there was no need to finish.

We took a taxi to their home. The apartment was on the second floor of a nice building in the city's center. The lights were out except those in the kitchen, and everyone was either out or asleep; two people were sleeping on the living room sofas. We sat around the table in the kitchen. My girl made us some tea. As we sat and sipped it in the cozy silence of their apartment, I could not help the feeling that we were slowly gliding through the space, high above the buildings and the bars, and the people passing by on the street.

We finished our tea and bid her friend good night.

I went into the bathroom, turning on the lights, and for a long time looked into my own eyes in the mirror. This would all end some day, maybe soon. Not a day passed without these words coming through my mind. Yet now I felt it through my whole body and consciousness that it did not matter. I went into the bedroom and closed the door behind me. The lights were out.

In the darkness, I could barely make out her figure in front of me. We embraced each other. I could feel her cold nose against my shoulder, her soft breasts against my chest. I removed her shirt and undid her brasserie. She removed my shirt. We embraced again, now kissing passionately; I could feel her entire mouth and jaw moving against mine, as if she wanted to swallow me whole. And I kissed her back with the same intensity. We moved together until we reached her room’s wall. I gently pressed her to the wall, and pressed my body against hers. I drew my nose to her neck and inhaled deeply. I could feel myself in the midst of the woods, the sun’s rays peeking through the tall trees, lighting a patch of ground around me.

She began moving her body back and forth against mine, inhaling and exhaling quickly. I bowed down in front of her and undid her jeans, revealing small black underwear. I kissed her on it and removed it. I licked her thighs, and moved my tongue across her vagina. It was warm and moist. I could hear her quickly inhaling; her hand was stroking my hair gently.

I went on my fours to her bed and lay down on it. She removed my shoes, undid my pants and my underwear, and tossed them aside. Lying in front of her, completely naked, my penis hardened like a tall thick tree. She sat on top of me, and let me slowly slide inside her. I turned her over so she was beneath me.

I could see the animalistic lust in her eyes, and I was trembling merely of the delight of being inside her. Yet I told her to wait. I leaned towards her and kissed her gently. I loosened my lips and let them slide slowly over hers. I asked her to close her eyes and kissed her eyelids. I was a lonely bird, flying above the forest. I was going up towards the sky, the trees getting smaller and smaller. Forests, fields, mountains, and rivers filled the entire world below me.

Her eyes opened and she looked into my eyes. I started moving back and forth inside her, first slowly, then more and more quickly, until I reached such a blazing intensity I lost track of time and space. I was all and only in that movement.

She was below me, my hands supporting my body from both her sides. Her mouth was widely open with pleasure, her eyes closed. Her moans went from long and deep to shorter and louder. At last perhaps she would have screamed, yet it came in silence, a deafening whisper. As she loosened her grip on her body, I came out of her and lay with my back to her. For a moment, as we were lying side by side, I felt emptiness, as if were merely two bodies giving a form of pleasure to each other. Yet before I descended the spiral staircase to darkness, she came to me. She kissed my on the neck, leaving her nose pressed against it. She embraced me from aback. Holding my penis with the palm of her hand, she started caressing the tip with her index finger, slowly and gently. In her gentleness I could feel the particles in the air connecting to each other. Only the words were unpronounced by her to me.

Feeling her gentle finger on the top of my penis and her lips on my neck, I could not help but come. I let my head loosen on the pillow. It seemed big now, and I felt my body falling down into great depths. And from the depths I reached my hand and grasped hers. I felt her head and soft hair on my chest, her slow breaths. I gently stroked her hair, then held on to her tightly. Just don't let me fall, were the words left unpronounced by me to her.
