Biking

(English after Hebrew)

      For Jen,
      30 years on earth,

1 wonderful year of marriage to me.

Your t-shirt was a sky stretching over cathedral spires.

Along the bike boulevard, petals were falling from your eyes,

Building into flowers to mark: they already passed.

I tried to say: I love you.

Since we pedaled against the wind

the words were lost to the asphalt behind us.

I tried to say: I have a poem for you,

Your fingers gripped my shoulders like handlebars

at both ends of an abbreviated dream

So, I couldn't utter a single word

while you rode me in and out between the rooms,

And my breathing stretched beneath you like an endless sheet.

As I drifted into a lucid sleep

on the blue boulevard laid out underneath us,

I felt you stirring alive between my thighs.
